Why did we all come to USA?

Sorry for not being clear in C & D. I am in US. The question I meant to ask is about the the time that I am not physically present in US i.e. If I went for vacction in India for a month, can that one month be included in my H1B1 extension since I was not physically present in US. In other words I would file for 1.1 year extension as opposed to 1 year
One the same topic, a friend of mine got a three year extension post 6 years of H1B. When asked, his lawyer informed, if you have an approved I140 then you are elegible for 3 years extension as opposed to 1 year. Is this true. Can some refer to the right CFR's

We've all heard about the skilled immigrant co-founders of Yahoo, Google, Ebay, and others.....but Youtube, the revolutionary internet-video sharing service, which was this week acquired by Google for $1.65 Billion, was also foudned by skilled immigrants- actually the son of skilled immigrants who probably came on H-1B visas the US- both are research scientists in Minnesota. These typify the H1B and EB immigrants.....if only our energies were not sapped by this frustrating Green Card process:-):mad:

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 11 — For Jawed Karim, the $100,000 or so he would have to spend on a master’s degree at Stanford was never daunting. He hit an Internet jackpot in 2002 when PayPal, the online payment company he had joined early on, was bought by eBay.
On Monday, still early in his studies for the fall term, he got lucky again. This time he may have hit the Internet equivalent of the multistate PowerBall.
Mr. Karim is the third of the three founders of the video site YouTube, which Google has agreed to buy for $1.65 billion. He was present at YouTube’s creation, contributing some crucial ideas about a Web site where users could share video. But academia had more allure than the details of turning that idea into a business.
So while his partners Chad Hurley and Steven Chen built the company and went on to become Internet and media celebrities, he quietly went back to class, working toward a degree in computer science.
Mr. Karim, who is 27, became visibly uncomfortable when the subject turned to money, and he would not say what he stands to make when Google’s purchase of YouTube is completed. He said only that he is one of the company’s largest individual shareholders, though he owns less of the company than his two partners, whose stakes in the company are likely to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, according to some estimates. The deal was so enormous, he says, that his share was still plenty big.
“The sheer size of the acquisition almost makes the details irrelevant,” Mr. Karim said.
On Wednesday, during a walk across campus and a visit to his dorm room and the computer sciences building where he takes classes, Mr. Karim described himself as a nerd who gets excited about learning. Roelof Botha, the Sequoia partner who led the investment in YouTube, said he would have preferred if Mr. Karim had stayed.

Mr. Karim was born in East Germany in 1972. The family moved to West Germany a year later and to St. Paul, Minn., in 1992. His father, Naimul Karim, is a researcher at 3M and his mother, Christine Karim, is a research assistant professor of biochemistry at the University of Minnesota.

In it, Mr. Chen talked about “getting pretty depressed” because there were only 50 or 60 videos on the YouTube site. Also, he said, “there’s not that many videos I’d want to watch.” The camera then turns to Mr. Hurley, who grins and says “Videos like these,” referring to the one Mr. Karim is filming.

Most of the time you will hanlde referential integrity checks via SQL constraints or a double layer via your business objects and constraints together. If you wrap your update statements in a try/catch you can always catch any SQLExceptions first.
Self incrementing IDs shouldn't be a problem - the data objects should be smart enough to know not to try to insert a key, and they will let SQL pick it. You shouldn't need to worry about these at all.
As long as SQL has the constraints you shouldn't have any problems introduced by the application - the worst case is that the application throws an unhandled exception after trying to do an illegal insert. Of course if this causes any problems within the application and the data display it should be handled, but the actual underlying data shouldn't be affected.

I think the timing is a matter more of when those of you who have to travel can make it here. For the locals, I think we're a lot more flexible. I would suggest a pre-xmas timing (mid to late dec). Right now, the fog on the bay is pretty bad, but toward xmas it usually lightens up. The weather will be chilly (esp. Marin & the seashore), but it never really gets cold here like those of you who have midwest or northeast winters. ;) Hotel rates should also be good. I'm looking forward to meeting any of you who can make it out here!
I've been trying to get the perfect bridge picture for a while, and we can continue that in Marin, and breakfast in Sausalito. We could hit the 'tourist' spots - Coit tower, Market street, pier 39, & the Presidio. If we want to go further afield, there are a host of parks and beaches immediately available. Point Reyes National Seashore is a two & a half hour drive north from SF. Tule Elk, shorebirds and sea lions. Point Ano Nuevo is an hour and a half south. Elephant Seals, birds and deer. I'm game for anything. I'm sure QJ will come up with an even better list and then we can discuss.

I'm from the UK and we've now been told I cannot leave the US and join him, until I have my advance parole which could take 3 to 4 months.
Smerchas...Are you sure about what this? From what I remember, you have to be in the country when you apply for your AP...But there is no necessity that you need to be here when it is approved !
Technically, you can ask your attorney or the person who is living at the address where the AP document would be sent by the USCIS, and request them to forward the approved AP to your then current address...That way, you don't have to stay in the country while USCIS processes your application...
Ofcourse, the flip side is, if your AP is denied for any reason, you would have to go to the US consulate in wherever country you are and request the special admission letter...

I filed my conversion case two months ago, they have not withdrawn my BEC case yet since BEC had not sent 45 days letter so far and BEC could not locate my old case to verify with new case, so my conversion case dormant at PERM as well as old case @ BEC. no use of PERM conversion if you have not received 45 days letter, it may be helpful for who have received 45days letter and waiting for BEC decision.

This is actually a very important matter for you; my best advise would be to contact a good attorney and get the advise. You do not want to put your GC in jeopardy based on opinion from other people who may have incomplete information.

Just heard this from my friend. His case is exactly the same (I140-NSC approved, July 2nd 9:01 R.Mickels filer). His got transferred to Texas and got receipts last week. No EAD's yet. Got receipt for FP date today.

one more question... if I reenter using my AP then IO always take you to some place/room to verify something or its sometimes/randomly only? I just realize that my connection time while coming back from one airport(POE) to another is just 2 hours.

These people have a big microsoft word file with some information. Take your $1000 and will do 'find and replace' option in the WORD to change into your name. You may think you have a ton of info to support your case. Everyone doing with them will have the same file (only name is changed).
Now USCIS knows this, and will be doomed.
Please save yourself money and time. I used CCI. I paid $925. Sheila will talk like its a piece of cake to get the approval. Its a BIG LIE. Actually CCI is flagged by USCIS. She will also give you a pdf document of 50 mb or so for you to take a print out and if in case you send it, you application is doomed. After submitting her evaluation, mine got denied. Talk to a good attorney like murthy and take a chance with them instead of spending a grand with this women.

1) The award you submitted was academic in nature. USCIS maintains that student awards such as fellowships, scholarships do not meet this criteria. Do you have anythingelse that is nationally recognized? Show me the evidence.
2) You submitted your work at research meetings. That is what researchers are supposed to do. How is your work is above and beyond what is out there in those meetings? that is another excellent choice mats the 10 d would suit someone very well that dosent want to spend more than say 1200 bucks on a camera and i would probably choose if i could find one a 10 d over all the above mentioned cameras as mats said it has the metal body and predictave focus and since its not being sold new you could probably find one well under 1000 bucks then use whatever amount you didnt spend on the body to buy a really good lens. cameras come and go but lenses stick around for a while so you mine as well get a good one.
