As someone who has to track down things like this constantly, I'm pretty unimpressed at the (lack of) speed of their code checking. This was not an obscure bug or complicated. It was just a too-large buffer definition and an execution path that always downloaded info.
And people think Apple can check binary app store submissions for bugs or trojans in just a few minutes, when they can't even find their own bugs in a few days with commented source code.
I think that is more proof of the fact that it was never a bug. Apple was doing it that way on purpose and the only reason they are claiming it was a "bug" is because they got caught big time.
The lie is the fact that it is a bug. It was done on propose and right now Apple is just doing CYA.

Maybe the reason they didn't bring it up was because they are working on a new feature (ie new maps or turn by turn gps built into the next iOS; they did mention it was to collect data for something like that), but now that the media has blown it out of proportion, they had to come out and address it. At least, that's what I'm assuming Apple's point of view was.

If you think about it, you don't really have that much say in the matter.I may be in the minority, but the rule around here is that you obey whoever pays the bills. That means that if you're still living under your parents' roof (or you're depending on them to pay the tuition, room, and board), then you live by their rules.
If I knew my kid was having sex with a girl he'd dated for three months, I'd have a problem with it. By that point, though, there's not much you can do shy of chaining him to his bed and her to hers.

um, you do realize theres a diff between emailing YOU, and marketing your personal data, right?
this isnt about email from the pub. its about them marketing your data to others, whether you get spam from it or not.
Yes, I have seen there are two checkboxes, I even mentioned it in my post. Check or uncheck either one as you like. Maybe you don't like e-mails about new features in their app, then just uncheck both. Or you are fine with receiving e-mail from FT then uncheck only the bottom one.
With Apple's simplified system, you only decide whether to hand over your data to the publisher, you cannot decide what they then do with this data.

Growl (http://growl.info) is a global notification system for Mac OS X. Any application can send a notification to Growl, which will display an attractive message on your screen.
Try it! Its free and from the makers of Adium and you'll love it!
I use it to notify me of iTunes track changes, new mail and Adium notifications.
That's what growl does? I've only ever seen/ heard about it in the Proteus message boards

I left carbon copy cloner running all night to make the bootable copy.
I was a little bit worried about leaving all night as I could not watch the temps. I guess I'm just a bit worried I may have screwed up the thermal paste. But no, it survived showing 52deg when I checked this morning.

Meanwhile in the world of tablets, RIM is having problems:
Earlier this week it was a breakout of sudden playbook death syndrome.
Now the company can't deliver its phones and the CEO is having a hard time with questions about security:
Poor RIM. I think the end is near.
Sounds like everything Apple just went through with Antenna-Gate and the White iPhone 4. It happens to everyone.

As a Graphic Designer, when the iPad was announced, this was the first thing I wanted to see. But after experiencing the iPad for over a year, along with a desktop, I don't think this way of working with Photoshop will prove to be beneficial. Lightroom, probably more so.
Just keep it as a Photoshop Express and push the photo adjustment features. Messing with layers, blending modes and brushes I think should remain as features for a desktop for designing.
Lastly, this demo reminds me of JuxtaPoser, a quick two layer masking app.

Okay, I need to know if you guys think this makes sense, or if I'm over-reaching here. Also, if you'd think this would even make sense as a setup. I trust (most) of your opinions, so ya know... lemme know!
I have a Cube which I use at home as my desktop, and my Powerbook which I lug around to class to take notes and do work and check email on the fly. I'm thinking about setting up a little Powerbook station next to my Cube, so that when I get home I can plug it in and sync up files with the Cube as well as do work on either computer. I'm thinking of setting up a KVM switch between the Cube and Powerbook, so when I come home I can use the same monitor (planning on a 20" Dell WS so I can have two docs open simultaneously) and keyboard on either computer. I'd probably run the Powerbook with the lid down (I'm pretty sure there's a hack for this) and just use the main monitor. I'm gonna set up a router to hook up both computers, with a network drive that both would sync files up on. That way any work done on either machine would be synced up on the other one, and backed up on the network drive.
Now, that's my plan. I think it'd really help me manage my time better, especially considering iCal on both computers seems to have completely different info, so I'm sure figuring out how to sync that up would be of great help. Being able to back up and sync up files on the move like that would be great, too.
So. What do you guys think? Does that make sense? Is it too ambitious? Am I making things a lot more complex than they need to be? Tips, suggestions, general verbal abuse? Your input's important to me, thanks!
Oh, and if this was posted in the wrong forum, feel free to move it, Buying tips and such just made the most sense for me.

There are multiple angles to the situation. He is 18 and even if he wasn't - he's still his own person and does make his own decisions. Still, you do have influence over his life since you pay the bills and provide for him. This doesn't give you the right to harass him but I think it is fair to set rules for what time you want him home and if he can sleep over somewhere else. I wouldn't push the "you can't have sex" thing because he's going to do what he wants, but if you do not approve tell him you don't approve of teenagers having sex for whatever your reasons you may have. Also explain that he can (and will) make his own decisions and that you will be respectful of that. He will have to be responsible for those choices. Encourage him to have safe sex and give the usual advice. I don't think you need to put the condoms in his hands though.
When I was 19, I was in college and my gf lived about four hours away, during the summer we'd visit each other for weekends and such and we had to stay at each other's parents' house out of necessity. Neither of our parents allowed us to sleep in the same room. We weren't having intercourse anyway, but we were intimate during these visits and if we had wanted to we would have had intercourse - where there's a will, there's a way! You can't stop that but I think it is fair to set the "rules of your home" and if he doens't follow them there are consequences: paying rent, pulling his share, etc. Many on this board find this to be unreasonable, but I don't - it's your home. I don't think you need to butt heads on this topic. If you talk about it like reasonable adults I'm sure you can come to a reasonable compromise that you're both comfortable with. Just be open-minded, honest and willing to concede on some points if he makes valid arguments. Talk to him without coming off as judgmental or controlling - it sounds like he is reaching out for your approval/guidance to some extent.
Don't make your love conditional, but your financial support and what you will tolerate in your home is conditional. My step-sister (22-years old) needed a place to stay when starting work after college and so she crashed with me. It was only for about two months. She didn't pay any rent and she was just sleeping on my couch. I told her I didn't want her having sex with guys in my livingroom. It's my home and I didn't want to walk in on that or hear it going on in my small condo - it would have been weird. She had guys over, caught them making out... fine. I didn't care what she did, she stayed over at guy's places which was fine by me. We both we're fine with our arrangement, probably because we talked it over like adults. I didn't want to control her life at all, I just didn't want MY home to feel uncomfortable for me. I guess that's a completely different situation, but it illustrates my point.
Don't try to stop the sex, becuase you can't. Don't be an ass about it becuase you'll only push him away. Tell him it is his choice to have sex but that since you don't approve of it and you provide for him that you're not going to set "house rules" that encourage it or make it easy. Do be open, honest and support him no matter what he chooses to do. This isn't something worth losing a very valuable relationship over.

Eh, people are reading the data completely wrong. The iPhone 4 dropped on Verizon in mid to late February and had 2.2mil activations by the end of the quarter (roughly 6-7 weeks later), at & t had it for roughly six weeks (almost double the time of Verizon) and only managed 3.6 mil activations. Verizon is activating MORE iPhones than AT&T at a faster rate, including the 3GS deal.
Im trying to figure out why media sites keep getting this so hopelessly wrong. This device sold 2 million+ units being a ten month old product in SIX WEEKS. Do you realize that that is nearly 15% of the lifetime sales of the most successful line of android phones (the galaxy s) in six weeks? If that's bad then **** according to this logic android is really ****ed.
I think you've got it wrong. Verizon's miss per this and the other reports I've seen is versus Apple & Verizon's expectations and plans. Nothing in this story mentions head to head sales, etc.
This isn't about Verizon iPhone versus AT&T iPhone. Its 100% about Apple's expectations. Maybe Apple blew their expectations, but its doubtful they didn't build in a future iPhone 5 launch keeping people on the sidelines, Android releases, etc.

Then go buy .Mac on eBay. You'll probably pay less than $50.
Most of the cut-rate hosting companies I've dealt with are actually less reliable than .Mac has been for me over the years (uh, Dreamhost, anyone?).
Sync services make .Mac worth it for me. That, and I've been using my .Mac email address since the first days of iTools, and the IMAP mail functionality has always worked very well between my main desktop, my laptop, and viewing from the web despite the highly dated current interface which looks like it's finally getting a modern, AJAX-y makeover itself.
Presumably the other web interfaces into .Mac are getting an equally complete (and equally overdue) makeover, as Peace hinted at. If there's new services being added, all the better.
Naturally, more storage would be welcomed and ought to be expected, given the competition out there. WebDAV / Finder file transfer speeds really need to be fixed, but I just access my iDisk via an FTP program if I want to transfer any big files back and forth. It's also dead simple to use iDisk to transfer files to my less than tech-savvy friends.
And you still get a free VersionTracker Plus account for being a .Mac member, which saves you $25 right there. :)
i don't think getting a free versiontracker is enough. I never understood why versiontracker is such a big deal because most of softwares get automatic updates anyway. unless i am missing something, i never use versiontracker.
