Booo! He worked for Microsoft, that means he knows nothing and that all of Microsofts "problems" will now surface on Apple devices. Unclean! UNCLEAN!!
From what I understand, there are smart and creative people at MS but the company is bloated and unorganized so it is unable to really utilize its people effectively.

Ultimately where does all this research go? Who is benefitting from it all? I can't help but think that all this research will just enable some multi-billion dollar drug company to come up with some pill that they can patent and make billions of more dollars. I tried reading the faqs of Folding@home, but it does not really say where all this research is going. I am sure the scientists mean well with their research, but ultimately they will not be the ones creating the drugs to cure these diseases. Drug companies will be doing that, and they are strictly profit oriented.
per the FAQ on the F@H page...
Who "owns" the results? What will happen to them?
"Unlike other distributed computing projects, Folding@home is run by an academic institution (specifically the Pande Group, at Stanford University's - Chemistry Department), which is a nonprofit institution dedicated to science research and education. We will not sell the data or make any money off of it.
Moreover, we will make the data available for others to use. In particular, the results from Folding@home will be made available on several levels. Most importantly, analysis of the simulations will be submitted to scientific journals for publication, and these journal articles will be posted on the web page after publication. Next, after publication of these scientific articles that analyze the data, the raw data of the folding runs will be available for everyone, including other researchers, here on this web site."
it's open source science. everyone participates, everyone wins.
2) My electricity prices are going up by about 10% so I really don't like the idea of my iMac running 24-7 eating up electricity, and adding to the wear and tear of my system. I'm not sure what the monthly cost would be running Folding@home, but I'm sure it adds up.
the cost of gasoline is up also, but i still drive my paper/plastic/glass to the city recycle point to keep it out of a landfill. i guess i don't get the point of the question. if you can afford the small increase in cost due to additional electrical usage, then fold. if not, don't.
no idea which system you have, but a quick guesstimate of a current imac running folding with the screen set to turn off when not being used would be around 100-120w, so like leaving a light bulb on. well, an old school incandescent bulb... you do have all LED and CFLs since you worry about electric rates, right?
if i had only an imac and a desire to fold, i'd leave the imac alone and build a cheap pc system to fold with. no wear and tear, better results, lower cost. just my 2 cents.

They could also be having problems with fit because a white iPhone is taller or wider than the black one. Has anyone measured the other dimensions?
Wow. I don't think anyone has thought of measuring the other directions. You're a genius.

The Wii is definitely being replaced with an Xbox and Kinect though.
The Wii "won" because of its software library and low price. The Kinect looks to have a standard console launch with a handful of supporting titles and is a peripheral to boot.

I find it very very sad that people are so bothered about trying to prove something as unpopular, by trying to make something else popular.

I think Republicans just have this weird vision for America where everyone is capable and responsible. We're not. So we need
... free everything and someone to teach us how to wipe our butts. We have this weird vision for American where everything should be an incentive to be responsible.
anything else promotes irresponsibility
"Hmmm, I already have health care, a second hand television, and enough food to live off of... Nahhh, I'll just look for a job next week" (all meanwhile we're swimming in unsustainable debt, and outrageous taxation) = nightmare scenario
the funny thing is that some of you would say "your nightmare scenario sounds awesome!", and that makes me sad

I must say though, for criminals...things are looking up.
If you add friends and family only then shouldn't be a problem. If it is then you need to pick your friends more carefully and family you associate with.
I remember when Twinkle and some other twitter apps use to broadcast your location.

5 years ago Apple was pushing open standards with no licensing require (ie, zeroconf) and no one would buy in. Now they offer a standard with a fraction of the capability and charge for it and everyone wants it.

All of these comments miss the point of what the announcement is about, institutional purchases. This is about school's buying large quantities, and really, since I have a hard time imagining that a University would be buying 10 packs of iPods .
Apple does sell iPods in institutional packs.
We've asked several Apple representatives "if I buy a class set of 32 ipods, and I want to use a paid app, how many copies does the school need to buy,
You need to talk to the developer, not to Apple. The App Store doesn't do volume licensing, because it's a consumer resource. The developer will either give you codes for each device or arrange to provide you with a master for site licensing, in which case you'll have to go the enterprise deployment route that Apple offers for large organizations.

I have been over to the website and I can't find where to download the beta. Can you send me a link to where it is?
Do you have a beta key and a battle.net account? If so, under manage games, go to "Add Game", and paste in your beta key. Then under manage games, select SC 2 beta, and then it gives you an option to download the windows or mac client.

But then we can all go to the pub :D
Or should that be the Leopard Lounge ;-) http://www.leopard-lounge.com/
Anyhow I hope to be there, maybe we should organise a mini flash mob or we should all wear Leopard scarves, bandanas etc ;)

It's an interesting concept that could be very useful for many applications - although I'm doubting their current timeline.

I think this is it
Publication date: The update is to appear still in this week
But the translation confuses me a bit.
